“Claro recognized the need to enable subscribers to utilize modern communication methods to ensure effective and efficient interactions with customers about their services. It turned to Wovenware to help it create an innovative SMS-based messaging app for use by its customers, but also as a way to communicate with its own clients.”
Telecommunications │ Software Development
In today's fast-paced world, efficient and accessible communication is paramount. Wovenware worked with Claro to modernize its customer communication systems, enabling the seamless conversion of email messages to text-based SMS. Today, vTexto enables Claro to create messages as emails, which are then translated into SMS text and sent out to thousands of customers. In its first two years of operation, Claro was able to send out 35 million messages and counting.
Utilizing a Microservices architecture, Wovenware designed an SMS app that enabled Claro to create a streamlined process that eliminates the need for additional messaging apps or complex integrations.
Together, Claro and Wovenware have redefined communication norms by bridging the gap between email and SMS.
The challenges
and insights
• Finding a way to transform email messaging into an easy-to-use SMS app.
• Deliver critical messages about service downtime or maintenance requirements to customers in the ways they’re most accustomed to.
• Provide graphical dashboards with summary details to monitor operation and usage.
• Ensure app and customer information security.
• Develop a console for monitoring the microservices and container orchestration services that the application runs.
Wovenware implemented a microservices architecture approach to quickly develop an SMS-to-text solution that is scalable, flexible and easy to maintain. Building the solution upon the cloud-based Microsoft Azure platform allows Claro and its customers to only pay for infrastructure used, and current versions are always available, including security updates that would take a lot of time to be implemented on-premise.

Our team analyzed Claro vTexto's requirements and leveraging the flexibility of a microservices architecture, we developed a robust messaging system that exceeded expectations. The microservices approach enabled vTexto to be created quickly since it decomposes applications into manageable services that are faster to develop. Different teams worked on different components simultaneously without having to wait for one team to finish one section before another one could start.
❝Our customers prefer mobile texts as the primary way to receive updates and news about our services, yet automating the process of converting texts into SMS format and seamlessly communicating with millions of customers required a major upgrade to our legacy system.❞
