    ABOUT DESIGN AT WOVENWARE

Design is the way today's leading organizations conquer a volatile, uncertain, complex and abstract world. It is the way innovation gets delivered. From Apple, Uber and AirBnB design (and its collection of principles found in Human-Centric Design or HCD) is at the heart of digital transformation and modern ways of problem solving. We bring together all types of designers from visual, interaction, user experience, product and even service and business designers to collaborate with amazingly talented project managers, business analysts, software engineers, quality testers, data scientists and machine learning engineers as well as amazing support services in order to deliver digital and data solutions that have a business impact as well as serve the needs of users.

We are looking for people who are passionate about design, users, creating impact and working collaboratively. Maybe that is you.

ABOUT THIS ROLE & ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

We are looking for a User Experience and Interaction Designer / UX/UI Designer

Job Summary: Apply experience and interaction design principles and craft to deliver amazing digital experiences for complex digital solutions.

We are a design, software development and artificial intelligence consultancy working on complex technology challenges for clients in interesting fields from healthcare, earth intelligence, financial services and justice. Our growing design practice works closely with clients applying human-centric design to better understand their user's needs and intentions and match those to business goals and capabilities. We use the entire design toolkit to conduct user research, synthesizing to actionable insights, developing new and powerful ideas and prototyping and user testing concepts to assure delivering real world action. We work closely with clients as well as engineers, business analysts and project managers and other digital solution partners within wovenware. And we need more UX/UI talent to help us craft amazing and engaging experiences and seamless interactions.

    Responsibilities

    • • Creating overall concepts for the user experience within a business webpage, app or product, ensuring all interactions are intuitive and easy for customers and consistent across the product.

    • • Producing high-quality UX design solutions including low and high-fidelity wireframes, visual and graphic designs, flow diagrams, storyboards, site maps, journey maps, personas and service blueprints.

    • • Designing UI elements and tools such as navigation menus, search boxes, etc for client digital assets applying the best practices in usability and design heuristics.

    • • Presenting work in progress and contributing to discussion with your team and other partners to assure we collectively make the best decisions for users.

    • • With the guidance of other more senior designers, participate in the team's efforts to understand customer needs, motivations & behaviors by applying deep customer empathy and a variety of design and ethnographic research methods and techniques including 1:1 user interviews, contextual observational studies, surveys and card sorting. You will help develop and execute design research efforts in order to shape client engagements.

    • • Understand the business context of a challenge by working with others on your design team like Business Designers and conducting comparative studies and reviewing data.

    • • Participating in a team of multidisciplinary partners in research synthesis sessions where we review learnings from research and extract insights that inform design decisions.

    • • Testing UI design elements and overall usability of the solutions we create and communicating these results in presentations, read outs and live discussions sessions to clients and internal partners along with others on your team.

    • • Developing different types of prototypes in order to get early feedback and iterate designs and then conducting measurable user tests in order to assure our solutions deliver real world value before we write a single line of code.

    • • Being an advocate for design both within Wovenware and with external audiences.

    Requirements

    • • 2+ years ofreal worldUX and UI experience (but we are willing to talk to highly talented people with less real world experience but a bunch of great academic projects for an Associate UX/UI starting role).

    • • A bachelor's degree in a related field like graphic design, industrial design or adjacent fields like marketing, psychology, sociology with experience in a design field or certified bootcamp courses in UX and/or UI like General Assembly, N/N Group or IronHack.

    • • Demonstrate strong ability working across relevant professional design software such as Figma, Sketch, InVision, and Adobe tools. Any experience with other design tools for user testing is a plus.

    • • Ability to provide clear, articulate rationale for design choices and approach.

    • • Demonstrate written, oral, presentation + time and task management skills.

    • • Proven ability to think through the end to end process of design from early discovery to user testing and handover to engineers and to guide others in applying design in a strategic and disciplined way.

    • • As a bonus, if you have a strong understanding of other design fields like design thinking and service design with the confidence to apply this thinking in your work we would be excited to see that. We value solid design foundations beyond digital.

    • • Also nice to have is some business acumen which means you get the basic of business and business decision making.

    • • This is a learning opportunity - we expect you to have some experience but are betting on your enthusiasm and eagerness to learn to take your current experience and skill to the next level with a good amount of help from people on your team who will be invested in your growth.

    To Apply

    • • Send a design portfolio that demonstrates both your deliverables (wireframes, personas, etc) but also you design process (how did you arrive at these solutions - this might even include low-fidelity hand sketches)

    • • Linkedin profile

    About Our Interview Process

We start by reviewing resumes and selecting candidates we want to talk to. In our design practice this includes looking at your portfolio. In a phone screening we focus on getting to know a little bit more about you. Advancing candidates are then invited to go through a culture interview where we get a sense if you'll fit in our culture (and for you to know if our culture is for you.). This is followed by a technical interview which for designers means a few things: 1) we want you to walk us through your portfolio. 2) we'll ask you questions about your work experience 3) we want to know more about your design and problem solving process and your understanding of the design process.

Whiteboard and Take Home Challenges: Sometimes we will narrow down to 2-3 candidates and present them with either a live project challenge or take home challenge. A live challenge is where we give you a design challenge to review in 30 minutes and then do a 30 minute live session with our design team for you to talk us through how you might approach it. A take home challenge is similar but we give you the challenge to work on over a few days and bring back your design solutions (low or high fidelity mockup, a simple journey map - something like this but not too much stuff. It's not a real job) to present to us in a 30 minute pitch session.

Core Skills that Will Make You Successful

    • • Be open to receiving objective criticism and improving upon it.

    • • Have a Growth Mindset (willingness to learn from failure, persevere past obstacles, focus on learning and improvement, depend upon your effort and ability to learn rather than on innate talent alone.)

    • • Be curious and lead with questions.

    • • Be a collaborator and co-creator willing to work with, listen to and align yourself with the efforts of a team. After all, all of us are smarter than any single one of us. We really, really, really believe in the power of small teams.

    • • Be a driven person who is proactive, thinks about how to make an impact on the work and on our business, takes charge of your growth, reaches out when you need help and holds yourself accountable for the quality and timeliness of your work.

    • • Bring your authentic self to work. We love the diversity of individuality of people who work here and encourage you to be you.
